Ring Around the Grindstone (Jewelcrafting) is a Masterwork Professions quest that unlocks Jewelcrafting recipes. Your Jewelcrafting must be rank 70? and your Stronghold Guild Hall must be at least rank 10 to take this quest.

Objective[ | ]

  • Complete Jewelcrafting Tasks for The Artisan.

Once training begins you may not begin training another profession until it is complete. Training can be time consuming and expensive, do not begin training unless you are certain of your choice.

Summary[ | ]

The Artisan
I'm sure you're eager to put your new tool and knowledge to the test. Call it a happy coincidence then that a [Gold Nugget] order has just come in, an order for a dozen.

You'll need [gold ore]—naturally—gather it yourself with an explorer's chart, or buy it from the auction house. Roast the gold with an equal weight of salt.

Once the nugget has cooled, use the grinding wheel to polish off any residue. You're liable to fail more than you succeed, the process is grueling, but stick with it. Bring me a dozen nuggets.

Dialogue[ | ]

After turning in first materials:

The Artisan
Perhaps this hasn't been a waste of time after all, these nuggets came out as well as one could hope for. Seems you have more of a knack for this than I gave you credit.

Precious metal purification has a long and storied history. Every culture seems to have developed its own unique methods for purification. Salt parting—the method you used—has been around for millenia.

We can refine the gold even further with the [concentrated aqua regia]. Using the alchemical mixture, you should be able to forge a [Gold Ingot] of unmatched purity. Bring me six ingots you would bet your reputation on.

After turning in second materials:

The Artisan
Superb! Not even the faintest impurity, excellent work Adventurer.

Do you know at what point most cultures began to develop methods of metal purification? When they first began minting currency of course. The need for standardized levels of purity drove the development of those techniques. That brings us to your next task.

I want you to make a [Newly "Minted" Gold Coin]. Don't worry, I don't plan on starting a counterfeit operation... again. This is purely to test your workers and see if they're ready for a major order I've received.

Nothing is more meticulously judged than the quality of a coin. There's a whole profession devoted to it.

After turning in third materials:

The Artisan
This gold coin looks genuine, perhaps a little too genuine. I'm not planning to start a counterfeit operation, but it seems like someone is.

The Master of Coin has ordered a [Set of Newly "Minted" Coins]—a copper, silver and bronze coin in the style of Neverwinter's coinage, from which dies could be cast. She seems to think she can convince Neverwinter to give our artisans business by opening a mint in the Stronghold.

Perhaps not the smartest idea, but I'm not about to invite her nagging upon me. You have the order, Adventurer, bring it directly to The Master of Coin when it's completed.

After turning in Mint Set to The Master of Coin:

Master of Coin
Oh, Adventurer, why did you make it? I was hoping The Artisan would...

Nevermind! This is excellent work, even I can't tell the difference and I look at coins all day. Hmmm, I wonder if the coffer could... taste the difference.

Anyway, thank you for your hard work, I'm sure the Neverwinter mint will be receptive to my lobbying.

Oh and you tell The Artisan that I'm on to his game. I'll get him to reveal his identity one day!

... Without The Steward knowing, of course.

Completion[ | ]

The Artisan
I heard The Master of Coin's squeaks from here. Just when I thought she'd finally given up her pointless inquest.

You have done well to relay my every lesson to your artisans, whether you think of yourself as such, you are indeed the master of a trade guild.

I've taken the liberty of having a new grinding wheel made, and a jewelmaster's garments to boot. The grinding wheel should serve your jewelcrafters better than that old hand-me-down I gave you earlier, and if you're going to lead a jeweler's guild, you ought to look the part.

You've learned everything I have to teach, now it's time to pray the harpy continues to hold up her end of the deal. It's been an honor.
