Helping with main page images[]

I first envisioned the community simply uploading images to the wiki and just suggesting them to me on my talk page or somewhere else, and if there were many good submissions for the same box (or for the background image), we'd set up something to have the community help select them.

But I've realized that some people might want to be able to try to plug images in themselves to see how it looks. Unfortunately, this isn't easy due to both standard security practice and new security features added to the software. While the standard practice of main page protection could be lifted, we have to live with the new security features, so there's no point in lifting the main page protection for this since the software now quietly prevent code that would display the background images from working. This is intended to protect users from malicious images and code that a malicious user might try to include in a page.

Using the following method, though, you can test images for yourself, but you will be the only one who sees them on the main page. Let me again stress, this is completely optional and won't affect your chances of winning. This is only if you want to see how the images look on the main page before suggesting them to me.

Step 1[]

First, upload your images to the wiki. Please choose a descriptive filename that includes your username.

Step 2[]

Copy and paste these incomplete styles to your personal stylesheet:

/* The background for the main page */ #100300
body.page-Neverwinter_Wiki div#content {
  background: url("http://hydra-images.cursecdn.com/neverwinter.gamepedia.com/c/cc/Neverwinter-Vector-Content-Corner.png") no-repeat left top border-box,
              url("http://hydra-images.cursecdn.com/neverwinter.gamepedia.com/4/4a/Neverwinter-Vector-Content-Left.png") repeat-y left top border-box,
              url("http://hydra-images.cursecdn.com/neverwinter.gamepedia.com/c/c4/Neverwinter-Vector-Content-Top.png") repeat-x left top border-box,
              #100300 url("") right top padding-box;
}

/* The box labeled Adventure */
#fpadventure {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Classes */
#fpclasses {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Races */
#fpraces {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Gameplay */
#fpgameplay {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled World */
#fpworld {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Crafting */
#fpcrafting {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Economy */
#fpeconomy {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Interface */
#fpinterface {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Setting */
#fpsetting {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Foundry */
#fpfoundry {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Neverwinter Wiki */
#fpwiki {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Neverwinter News */
#fpnews {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

/* The box labeled Neverwinter */
#fplinks {
  background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.64) url("") no-repeat left top;
}

Step 3[]

Go to the image pages for the images you uploaded. Click on the image so that you see only the full-size version of the image; you no longer see the wiki page. Copy the address from your address bar and paste it between the quotes in url("") for the appropriate box or the main page background.

Step 4[]

When you're done, save your personal stylesheet. You should see instructions on the page for refreshing your cache, which is often necessary before you'll see any changes.

Step 5[]

You should see the images appear on the main page now.

Step 6[]

If you want to be able to show the results off to others, ask me to set up a mockup of the main page for you that will let others see the images.

And again, if you don't want to go through all of this, you can just upload the images and suggest them to me for the main page background or one of the boxes. While the contest is ongoing, I probably won't be adding the images to the main page immediately. If you upload a complete set or close to it, though, I will likely be willing to set up a mockup for you if you'd like, even if you only get through Step 1. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 18:36, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Eligibility: Oceania/Asia?[]

Just to double-check... so non-European/American/Canadian contributors aren't eligible to win prizes? Not even digital content prizes such as Guardian / Hero packs? Chezcaliente (talk) 01:49, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

I'll double-check with the head office as soon as possible, but I don't think we can offer eligibility beyond the listed regions. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 02:07, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm afraid this is verified. We can't offer these prizes outside of the US/Canada/Europe. Apologies for this limitation. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 22:45, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

I like the idea[]

Very neat concept for a contest on the wiki, I like it a lot. I was intested until I found out Submissions must be sent via twitter which I can't bring myself to sign up for. Still neat idea though. Anyway to put submissions not using twitter like just using old fashoned email? Phaazen (talk) 06:30, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm going to be conferring with the coordinators to get some clarification of some of the rules after the weekend, and I'll ask about this, but I doubt we can change this now that the contest is already running. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 18:24, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately, we're going to be sticking with the tweet requirement. I apologize for the inconvenience. oOeyes User-OOeyes-Sig 22:31, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
