Ten-Towns:

Summary[edit | edit source]

Arcane Brotherhood:

Anara the Cerulean
I am pleased you have chosen to work with the Arcane Brotherhood. We have brought much wealth to Caer-Konig, and we all profit as a result.

You'll want to speak with Flint Vreesh of the Brotherhood, the merchant Grigoi Skrimshander, and the ranger Gurth Grimstalker. They'll recognize the contract you carry and provide you with information on how you can be of assistance to the people of Caer-Konig.

But before you do, speak with Noramos Battleheart. He is responsible for the security of our operations outside of Caer-Konig, where agents of the Ten-towns threaten our interests... and our agents.

Ten-Towns:

Bowen Brant
Welcome aboard! Now head to the town square and put that daily contract to work.

Talk to the Ten-Towns representative Aelred Windsinger, the guild master Grigoi Skrimshander, and the ranger named Gurth Grimstalker about what needs to be done. I can vouch that their contracts will pay well.

First, though, I want you to meet Rolf the Relentless. He's a Reghed barbarian from the Elk Tribe, and the closest thing we have to a sheriff around here. He can tell you how to deal with the agents of the Arcane Brotherhood once you leave the safety of Caer-Konig.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

  • You are responsible for Arcane Brotherhood security?
Noramos Battleheart
I am. I am a diviner of fate. I see where the enemy will attack, and position our forces accordingly.

I will have tasks for you from time to time, if you do not object to battling other adventurers.

Ebonfrost Scree in Icewind Pass and Haftwood in Dwarven Valley are PVP areas, rich in black ice deposits. They are marked in red on the map.

Entering a PVP area flags you for PVP on the side of your current contract. You remain flagged until you are killed, reach a campfire, or leave the map.

Defeating players in PVP will earn you Scrimshaw Tokens you can trade to Notan Ivoryknife for special transmutation weapons.

Heroic Encounters in PVP areas pit your side against your rivals. Winning a Heroic Encounter for your side will cause a black ice Mother Lode to erupt!

  • I Understand.

  • You're the Ten-Towns sheriff?
Rolf the Relentless
Ha! Did Bowen tell you that? I'm no sheriff! Ten-Towns never needed a sheriff before the Arcane Brotherhood showed up!

But I do keep an ear to the ground. If you're not afraid to slap around an adventurer or two, I might ask you for a favor from time to time.

  • I Understand.

  • What business brings you to Caer-Konig?
Grigoi Scrimshander
Grigoi Scrimshander is my name. I’m a scrimshander by both name and trade. You may have seen my works traded from Neverwinter down to Waterdeep - beautiful, intricate artwork carved into bone!

The other merchants in Caer-Konig can deal with that foulness known as black ice all they want, but not me. I see that cold look in their eyes when they handle it... brrr...

In any case, I'm always looking for help in building my trade, and adventurers like yourself are more than capable of dealing with some of the threats around the Ten-Towns!

  • Thank you Grigoi.

After speaking to Grigoi Scrimshander you can accept the Lost on the Pass quest.

  • What brings you to Caer-Konig?
Gurth Grimstalker
You want to know Gurth's life story? Gurth will indulge.

Gurth's mother was a great hunter in the nearby Kingdom of Many-Arrows. Gurth spent many years travelling with her across Icewind Pass, where Gurth learned many survival skills.

Some say Gurth's father was an ice goblin. Some have been fed to trolls.

Now, Gurth see black ice corrupt many beasts in Icewind Dale, driving them to frenzy and killing. It bad for nature. It bad for Caer-Konig.

You understand Gurth now! Maybe you help Gurth? Gurth can pay!

  • I'll see what I can do, Gurth.

After speaking to Gurth Grimstalker you can accept the Yeti Vendetta quest.

  • You are part of the Arcane Brotherhood?
Flint Vreesh
I am, indeed. You must be <name>. I have heard of your many exploits, and am suitably impressed.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am known as Flint Vreesh. Anara and I represent the interests of the Arcane Brotherhood in the area.

What brings us here, you may ask? We have been drawn here by recent events, in particular the eruptions of black ice ranging from Icewind Pass to Dwarven Valley. The black ice holds many arcane mysteries we seek to unravel. It is most... intriguing.

However, we are stymied in our efforts by the local coalition of Ten-Towners who seek to hoard the black ice for their own petty ends. Speaker Alden Lowell understands the knowledge - and profit - that can be made by supporting the Arcane Brotherhood efforts. But the rest of the Ten-Towners and their Elk Tribe thugs had better keep out of our way or face our wrath!

  • Thank you, Flint.

After speaking to Flint Vreesh you can accept the Weapons Raid quest.

  • Do you represent Ten-Towns?
Aelred Windsinger
Yes, I am Aelred Windsinger, and as the representative of the Ten-Towns merchant guilds, I am recruiting and contracting adventurers to help keep Ice Wind pass open.

Without trade Ten-Towns is doomed. The black ice eruptions are both a boon and a curse to us. I am counting on you in this venture, keeping Ten-Towns trade safe and sharing in the profits of the Black Ice along the way.

  • I am ready to help.

After speaking to Aelred Windsinger you can accept the Lighting the Pass quest.

Completion[edit | edit source]

Alden Lowell
Welcome back, <name>! Remember that your contract is good for one day. After that, you are a free agent and can pick or choose whom you would like to work with.

I can’t let you leave Caer-Konig without a contract though. It is part of my agreement with the two sides that is non-negotiable. Peace in Caer-Konig depends on this agreement.

Be careful out there, and no doubt we’ll be hearing of your daring deeds and the fortune you have made with black ice!
